Formulation Recipes

In the Formulation module, the recipe and the product data sheet share the same data. This allows R&D teams to enter ingredients and quantities just once, and the module automatically calculates the required regulatory labeling (INCO, FDA) and then generates the corresponding product data sheet.

Every time a recipe is modified, the ingredient costs, nutritional values, Nutri-Score, allergens, and ingredient list are calculated until the requirements of the marketing brief, specifications, or requests for proposals are met. These results are directly incorporated into the product data sheet: no calculations need to be redone manually to document it. It is this immediate recalculation that makes simulation possible: multiple variations of a recipe can be compared side by side (ingredient costs, nutritional profile, Nutri-Score) before any laboratory or factory testing takes place.

A product data sheet is based on the recipe: ingredients, nutritional values, allergens, origin of raw materials, and storage conditions. When this information is stored in separate files, every recipe change requires updating multiple documents, with the risk of leaving an outdated version in circulation.

Each approved recipe change generates a new version, thereby preserving the history. R&D teams can build on previous recipes and leverage past projects to develop new products more quickly.

The advantages
from the Formulation module

Why adopt it?

Innovating, arriving first on the market, being able to quickly adapt products to consumer expectations while guaranteeing food safety and regulatory compliance, are powerful keys to product success in a context of strong competition and pressure from distributors.

FACILITATE FORMULATION

You quickly create or modify recipes in the composition grid and view the results in terms of recipe cost estimate, nutritional values, Nutri-score, allergens, ingredient declaration, claims, etc.

REDUCE TIME TO MARKET

You accelerate developments by formulating faster, and by working through simulation and comparison of recipe variants, you limit tests and analyses with considerable time and cost savings.

SECURE CALLS FOR TENDER

By carrying out pre-feasibility studies, you can quickly check whether you meet the requirements of calls for tender to proceed or not, in order to focus on the most profitable projects.

Calculate a recipe's Nutri-Score automatically!

The Nutri-Score, nutritional values, and list of allergens are recalculated every time the recipe is modified. The R&D teams immediately assess the impact of an ingredient change before generating the product data sheet. The video demonstrates this calculation under real-world conditions in one minute.

We shed light on the most frequently asked questions.

How do I generate a product data sheet from a recipe?

The product data sheet is generated directly from the recipe. The Formulation module uses the ingredients, quantities, and processes entered by the R&D teams to calculate nutritional values, the Nutri-score, and allergens, and then compiles the data sheet in the required format. When the recipe changes, the data sheet is updated automatically.

How can we meet the requirements of a client’s formulation specifications?

To meet a client’s specifications, the recipe is adjusted as it is developed. With every change to an ingredient or quantity, the Formulation module automatically recalculates the recipe’s ingredient cost and regulatory labeling: nutritional values, Nutri-Score, allergens requiring declaration, and INCO and FDA labeling requirements.

This allows R&D teams to measure the immediate impact of each decision and fine-tune the recipe to meet the client’s requirements—target price, nutritional profile, and allergens to be excluded—before committing to a final version. The same mechanism applies to requests for proposals, where the cost price and labeling requirements determine the proposal’s eligibility.

Does formulation software automatically calculate the Nutri-Score and allergens?

Yes. Keendoo’s Formulation module calculates the Nutri-score based on the recipe’s ingredients, using the current algorithm, and generates a list of allergens that must be declared based on the raw materials used. The nutritional values and INCO labels are generated at the same time and then included in the product data sheet.

Is it possible to simulate several variations of a recipe before starting the trials?

Yes. The Formulation module recalculates material costs and regulatory labeling every time a recipe is modified, allowing for the comparison of multiple variants before any laboratory testing. R&D teams only proceed with testing and analysis on variants that meet the targets set by the marketing brief, the client’s specifications, or the request for proposals.
